  • Taking Advantage of Past Credit Issues

Family members receive calls looking for me, get my number and then proceed to call me from a blocked number saying they're a process server and wanted to warn me that I am going to be served papers regarding a civil case wherein X credit card company is taking me to court regarding X amount of unpaid debt. Then, almost immediately, I get a call from the 888 number who claims to be with Jonathan Franks Associates or JC Franks Associates Law Office. They confirm that there is such and such credit card company who has sent papers to me, etc. They say the only way to remedy this is to pay the amount owed immediately, or else be taken to court where the company is requesting the amount owed plus lawyer fees. After doing some research, there appears to not be a law office in said name, and everywhere I can find someone speaking on the 888 number, it is being touted as a scam. Furthermore, process servers DO NOT AND WILL NOT CALL TO WARN YOU OF PAPERS FILED ON YOU. After all, they are paid to deliver the papers to the individual in person.
